temple visit

Once again this is only going to be short and sweet.
Yesterday we visited the 120 year old Kek Lok Si Buddhist temple which was amazing. To get to the temple we had to walk through an almost underground tunnel system full of market stalls with every souvenir you could think of.
The temple was very peaceful and calm but I was suprised by how commercialised it was. There were 7 gift shops throughout the temple. After a walk around and buying yet more bits and pieces we headed back to the hotel to catch the shuttle bus to the night markets with our English buddies Lynda and Laurie. Most people would be very proud of me but I didn't buy anything last night..... Kristian on the other hand came back with a handful of bags full statues and buddahs.
We have been spending a lot of time in the pool which is really nice especially because there is never that many people in it.

Anyway like I said this is just a short post just to keep you all in the loop.
Off to the batik factory tomorrow and the night markets to haggle for a Jimmy choo wallet/bag

Hope everyone is well and we will be seeing you in a few days.

hello from penang

Hello all
Sorry once again for us being so slack on writing our blogs but by the time we get back to the hotel we are so exhausted so we just go to bed.

Anyway in short we are currently in Penang. We have been here for two days now and so far it is very different to what we thought it would be.
We have spent most of the past two days relaxing by the pool and the pool bar which has been nice but it is very different from the week we had in KL when we were busy non stop all day.
Our nights are spent in Batu ferringhi eating dinner on the beach at a nice restaurant with some new friends we have made (they may be puppies but they still count).
After dinner we have walked up and down the market stalls which ofcourse we are everyone's first customer and best friend.

We have an amazing view from our hotel room. I will try and post some photos tomorrow.

Sorry this is so short but I'm ready for bed.

Ohhh a few days ago back in KL we went to the Batu caves. There is 272 stairs to the top and the same coming down. As most of you know I am veryyyyy clumsy and fall over thin air... but you will be proud to know I made it all the way up the steep stairs but coming down is a different story. In typical Lauren fashion I fell down the very last step into a pot hole injuring my ankle. Ofcourse I balled my eyes out but it was more embarrassing because there were hundreds of worshippers at the caves staring at me.
So I have been struggling a lot the past few days.... but mum you will be glad to know the swelling is going down and it doesn't hurt so much anymore

Hope all is well at home.
Happy Australia day aswell: )

Shopping, shopping, shopping and lady gaga

Saturday was largely a day to rekindle old friendships with some of the marketsmen that we told we have to get more money but never returned...

We started the day off catching the monorail to imbie which was the station opposite our old hotel the melia, which only boasted a 9 story shopping centre with Asia's longest indoor rollercoaster so nothing realllyy special I guess. After doing a bit of market shopping it was time to leave unfortunetly neither of us could figure out which way the exit was. Only 45 minutes later with a couple more purchases under Lauren's belt did we find the exit to the monorail (we must have still be disoriented because we jumped on the wrong direction for the monorail, which is strange due to my impeccable sense of direcion, everyone has their bad days I guess). Afterwards we headed back to bukit bintang plaza where after getting lost in myriad of walkways finally (and regrettably) cross paths with a marketsman that we had haggled with just The other day and said we just needed some money (after telling him specifically NOT to follow us after many attemps). We were then snatched from the walkway and had turnip cream slapped on our faces and hands and so convincinly told to buy 8 bottles, without breaking The hearts of our new friends we spat out the oh so familiar sphrase 'we just have to go get some money' but we don't think they bought it.

After an exhaustive amount of shopping we then went to central market to watch some hybrid performance which turned out to be some old men rambling so we fled to the Chinatown markets where we were in an abundance of friends, one even calling Lauren lady gaga which I can see the resemblance...
Shopping shopping and shopping later we ended The night in the usual fashion, spend over an hour in The rooftop pool with the petronas twin towers illuminated in view, something that NEVER gets old.

Well today we are off to the Batu caves so that should be interesting (all 272 stairs of it =) )

Well stay safe and stay tuned and we will communicate soon!

Selamat Datang (welcome) to our new blogggg!

As we write this we are now in our 35th hour awake with only 2-3 hours nap on the plane, so half of us are struggling ( kristian is a machine hence im the half not struggling). Our first couple of hours when relatively uneventful with a smooth run through immigration and customs then the awesome KLIA ekspess that gets over an hour car trip into the city centre over in a mere 28 minutes. We ended up getting off the train arournd 7 30am with the sun still not showing its face until a lazy 45 minutes later, everythings a bit laid back on this country.

So we started our first day checking into the hotel at around 8 30am with the room available so we were able to go up and put our stuff away and also freshen up a bit after our relatively sleepless flight. After a bit of well needed rest, we headed out to bukit bintang plaza which is a bit like time square in new york where we made many new friends! The abundance of markets are fantastic with each sales assistant being my best friend. I've never been so complimented so much in my life! I'm handsome, a good man, gentleman, best friend but I guess everyone reading this would already think this =) haggling is fantastic, my new wallet (yes I bought one) started off being RM190 ($65~) and by the time we were done it was RM20 ($6.80)! We also got quite a few more bargains like sunnies and other things but we are going back saturday for more bargains. Afterwards we retreated back to the hotel for a swim in the infinity edge pool which has fantastic views! Afterwards we headed back to bukit bintang to get something to eat and of all the places to eat we chose mexican! It was a nice cheap meal though which was good costing us around $11 drinks included.

Friday was largely more interesting and eventful because we had way more energy and tonnes more sleep! To start off any good day a buffet breakfast is a must, a bit of spicy beef, chicken rangang, cow hee roup (yes that's a type of rice!), beef Bacon, spicy hash brown and The list goes on. I don't think I've been to such a good buffet in my life! 3 plates, 2 muffins and a yogurt later; we headed over to central market were there truely are some awesome things, including the fish spa! With my experimental nature I just had to try it, and it feels way weirder than is sounds. Its basically hundreds of fish fighting over the privilege to kiss my feet (how cool, much deserved though). After looking around central market and almost being tempted by an ice cream sandwich we headed out to the streets. that's where we found The Chinatown markets. Where we made many many many new friends (wanting to sell us dvds but more importantly wanting our friendship). Temping as it was to eat some of the meats on offer at the market, I ended up opting for some more traditional fish balls on a stick, probably not the brightest idea as they had more elasticity than a bouncy ball!

It is now Saturday and just about to head out to times square where there is the longest indoor rollercoaster in Asia!

We will post another tonight about The events that unfold today so stay tuned and we will communicate soon!

Kristian & Lauren.
